Modifications These are major modifications and it is not recommended by the designer nor the building community. I discourage it as well since it leads to undue added building time and related problems. Lycoming O-540 Engine
Here is Chris van Hoof installing the Two Blade Catto Propeller (88" Pitch X 68" Diameter). Craig Catto came up with these numbers and to date I have been very satisfied with the performance. the performance estimate is spot on. The Cozy O-540 cruises at 205Kts TAS at 7500Ft @ 20"Man Pressure. At that speed the fuel burn is 12Gph. I couldn't ask for any better.
Enhancements These are modifications that have been time proven and are considered safe by the building community. I recommend them highly and it has made my flying safer and much more fun. There is a huge cost to them but then again nothing comes cheap. Electric Nose lift Electric Speed Brake EZ Auto Pilot EZ3 Altitude Hold Remote Fuel Valves Vortex Generators Garmin 296 GPS
Being used to my Apollo Flybuddy I must admit that the Garmin 296 is a much better option. The Flyduddy worked well with the EZ-Pilot and tracking was precisely maintained. I had to get a serial I/F harness to connect the Garmin 296 to my EZ-Pilot. The esae of operation and the lesser workload makes the Garmin the best option. The photo shows 202Kts cruising speed. This is the normal cruising speed that I fly when I do longer cross country routes. |
