I'll keep adding and editing this page as memories come back
to me.
Born on 17 May, 1957 in Kemton Park, a small community to
the north east of Johannesburg, was raised there to the age of 8 and then
moved to Botswana where my dad operated a insecticide outlet during the time
of huge campaigns against the Tsetse Fly. We later at the age of 12 moved
back to South Africa and lived on a small holding near Pretoria close to a
regional airport, "Grand Central". I used to wash small aircraft just to get
a ride during school breaks. Ever since I can remember I was highly
intrigued by flying machines. My late mother took me for my first ever movie
show in a theatre in Johannesburg. (sounds crazy, but it's true). I saw
"Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines". This made matters worse
and I became obsessed with aircraft and the construction thereof.
Building an aircraft has always been in my mind - even
through my educational years. I lived and dreamed aircraft most of the
times. soon after my first marriage I obtained a set of KR2 plans and was
forever modifying and altering the design before I eventually started
building a semi complete example that I purchased from a work colleague.
Unfortunately I had to sell it off as I encountered financial difficulties.
Children at school demanded financial burdens. Suffice to say that It all
paid off in the end and I am very proud of their achievements.
